CalNonprofits Articles

Our collective voice is
powerful, and we have a
lot of work to do.

We not only serve communities, we represent them. The CalNonprofits policy convention presented an opportunity for nonprofit leaders and staff to engage in thought-provoking discussions and exchange views and insights on the crucial policy issues facing nonprofit organizations.

On Thursday November 14th, over 250 nonprofit leaders, foundation folks, consultants, and change makers gathered to spend a day discussing, debating, learning and inspiring each other to work together to create systemic change in California through policy advocacy.

Check out the Storify of the Convention for the e-scrapbook of the day! Look at convention photos here.

The Convention keynote address from Professor Robert Reich talked about the alarming growth of systemic inequality in the U.S. and the role of nonprofits in combating inequality and supporting communities.

Nonprofits are in the frontlines and faced with the burden of talking about inequality in America, you need to push Congress to take this conversation seriously."
-- Robert Reich

During the opening plenary session CEO Jan Masaoka asked “what can philanthropy be doing better?” and sparked a good dialogue among foundation executives Fred Ali (Weingart Foundation), Pam David (Haas Sr. Fund) and Emmett Carson (Silicon Valley Community Foundation).

Heartfelt thanks to all the amazing speakers  for giving us all a hearty feast of food for thought, and for making the day engaging and fun!
