The California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits) is a statewide membership organization that brings nonprofits together to advocate for the communities we serve. 

At CalNonprofits we: 

  • Speak with the voice of California nonprofits to the legislature, government agencies, philanthropy, and the public.
  • Work with legislators and nonprofit coalitions to develop legislation that will allow nonprofits to bring our full power to serving our communities, and remove the obstacles to efficient contracting and high-impact work.
  • Bring nonprofits together to discuss and debate issues, to think through the implications of government and philanthropic actions, and to build networks that support our organizations and the communities we serve.
  • Publish research, analysis, news and opinion through our website, our print newsletter, and our e-newsletter. Sign up for our free e-newsletter to keep you up to date on what you need to know about Sacramento doings and special opportunities for your nonprofit.
  • Members: Nearly 10,000 California nonprofits are members of CalNonprofits. Membership benefits include discounts to goods and services, exclusive access to special membership opportunities, and the energy that comes from participating in an active advocacy network.   • Board of Directors: CalNonprofits is led by a volunteer Board of Directors representing a diversity of geography, organizational types and fields, and personal backgrounds. For more about the Board of Directors, click here.
  • Offices: Our main office is in San Francisco. We also have offices in Sacramento and Los Angeles. In addition, the California Association of Nonprofits Insurance Services brokerage is located in Capitola. See each office's contact page for a location map.
  • Staff: Our staff is led by CEO Jan Masaoka; other key staff include Christina Dragonetti, Marketing and Membership Manager (San Francisco); Dishauna Castro, Administrative Coordinator/Executive Assistant to the CEO (San Francisco); Katie Kleinsasser, Communications Director (San Francisco); Nancy Berlin, Policy Director (Los Angeles); and Jennifer Fearing, Sacramento Advocate (Sacramento).

For one hundred years, California nonprofits have been in the forefront of important social movements including; the women's suffrage campaign of the 1900s, the free speech and black liberation movements of the 1960s, and the birth of the environmental movement in the 1980s. As a result of the dedication and vision of California’s nonprofits in years gone by, today:

  • California's nonprofit hospitals and universities are world class institutions
  • California's nonprofit arts and cultural organizations are admired around the world for their artistic daring and excellence
  • California's all-volunteer organizations manage huge programs for children and for our parks and beaches

California's 80,000 nonprofits are key reasons why California is an economic driver, a leader in innovation, a champion for hope and opportunity, and always looking towards a better future.
